Personnel Allocations Tutorial Part 1 (Video)

Do you have personnel costs that need to be spread  across multiple budget areas?

Martus’ Personnel Allocations feature allows you to do this easily.  Within a scenario, assign the employees and positions to their “home dimension”, then define the allocation(s) to spread those costs to different dimensions: departments, projects, grants, etc.

Click the link below for Part 1 of a tutorial will explain allocations and show you how an allocation can be set up and used.  (Part 2 of this tutorial shows you how to add an allocation and provides answers to FAQs about personnel allocations.)

Setting Up Pay Types Tutorial (Video)

In Martus, pay types are used to define all the ways in which you compensate your employees, whether pay or benefits. You can also consider creating pay types for compensation to non-employees.

Pay types can include hourly wages, salaries, bonus, retirement plan matches, insurance premiums, and tax. Pay type setup is very flexible and supports a very wide variety of compensation and benefit plans.

Percentage Pay Types Tutorial (Video)

This tutorial focuses on the “percentage" pay type.  It provides examples of how to set up percentage pay types and how to assign them to employees

The percentage pay type is used to automate the calculation of budgeted amounts in proportion to other compensation, basing these budgeted costs on a percentage of the other pay items assigned to a position. Examples where you might want to use this are:

  • Workers comp costs
  • State unemployment
  • Social security tax
  • Company-paid retirement match

When setting these up, you must define the following information:

  • The base, or “source”, pay types
  • The percentage rate to be applied to the base compensation
  • The percentage of that calculated value that is to be paid by the employer.

You may also define a limit for the total employer responsibility per calendar year.

Update Rates on Pay Items Tutorial (Video)

There are many reasons why you might like to make mid-year changes to pay rates within a Personnel Budgeting scenario:

  • Mid-year merit or COLA increase
  • Mid-year health insurance premium increase
  • Mandated update to the minimum wage
  • Employee on leave
  • Factor in a waiting period for employee benefits

This tutorial walks through each of these use cases for updating rates on pay items.

This tutorial is intended for those users who have some experience with Martus' Personnel Budgeting. You should be familiar with Martus' personnel budgeting in general, and you should already have set up your pay types, added positions, and assigned pay types to those positions.
