Multi-Currency Support (with Sage Intacct)

In our integration with Sage Intacct, Martus includes support for multiple currencies for both actuals and budgets. Martus also allows you to view actuals and budget in local currency or consolidated into a single currency.

The amounts within Martus are nominal (not formatted for any specific currency). Each location or entity can view their actuals and do their budgeting in their local currency. When uploaded to Sage Intacct, this budget should be loaded to the Intacct budget that is also in local currencies.

To view consolidated actuals, a second instance of Martus is required. This instance is configured so that it is connected to the consolidated books within Intacct. Both instances share the same chart of accounts and dimensions. Users can be authorized in one or both instances. (Any users who are set up to access both instances can toggle between those instances without logging out.)

If a consolidated budget is also required, a feature within Martus allows you to provide currency conversion factors to convert the local-currency budget to a consolidated currency budget. You can then import this budget into your second (consolidated) instance of Martus. This budget can also be uploaded to Intacct, if desired.

Within Martus, currencies and the currency conversion rate are defined at the level of the location dimension.

The second instance of Martus uses the Alternate Transaction BookId setting to specify the consolidated books as show in the example below. This is configured by Martus Support as part of implementation of the Multi-Currency feature.

Checklist for Getting Started with Martus

After training, review and complete the steps in the document below. Then you'll be ready to start using Martus!

Line Dim vs Sheet Dim

Sheet dimensions and Line dimensions

Defining dimensions in Martus is a crucial configuration that affects the structure of budget worksheets, user restrictions, and reporting filters. When defining dimensions we need to understand two terms: Sheet dimensions and Line dimensions.

The primary difference between a line dimension and a sheet dimension in Martus is their application and granularity.

Sheet dimensions determine the layout of budget worksheets. A separate budget worksheet is created for each unique combination of sheet dimensions. Users will then use these worksheets to create a budget for that specific area.

For example, if Location and Department are both sheet dimensions, worksheets will be created for each combination like this:

  • Location 1 | Department A
  • Location 1 | Department B
  • Location 1 | Department C
  • Location 2 | Department A
  • Location 2 | Department B
  • Location 2 | Department C

    Notes about Sheet Dimensions:

  • Used in combination to define budget areas.
  • Do not need to be set as required since Martus Admin users have discretion and control over the dimensions used to define worksheets.
  • Within Martus you can have up to 5 sheet dimensions

Line dimensions are tags within a budget line in the general account's budget worksheet.

For example, if Project is a line dimension there could be multiple budget lines for the same GL account inside of that worksheet:

  • GL Account 5500 Legal Fees | Project 1
  • GL Account 5500 Legal Fees | Project 2
  • GL Account 5500 Legal Fees | Project 3

    Notes about Line Dimensions:

  • Used on budget and SPW (Special Purpose Worksheet) lines to provide granular budgeting within a General Ledger (GL) account.
  • Can be set as required, meaning a line dimension value is necessary on every budget line on worksheets and SPWs.
  • Within Martus you can have up to 3 line dimensions
  • Line dimensions can also be set to required
  • Line dimensions can also be set to "non-budgetable" - which means you won't be able to budget to that dimension  but that dimensions will be accessible as a filter to see activity on reports
